The Flight of the Butterfly: A Journey of Love and Destiny

“A story of sacrifice and timeless beauty.”

In this exceptional intervention, we envisioned a living design crafted to immerse attendees in the emotional world of Madama Butterfly, highlighting themes of sacrifice and the fragility of happiness.

We have reimagined three iconic spaces of the Teatre del Liceu: the Hall, the Mirror Salon, the Foyer, and the Opera House itself. Inspired by Japanese culture, this atmosphere envelops viewers in a narrative of ephemeral beauty, taking them on an emotional journey that echoes the essence of the opera.

As they entered the theater, attendees were greeted by living cherry blossoms, formed by performers on stilts who, moving with elegance, evoked a hallway of sakura trees in full bloom.

In the Mirror Salon, a performer with large butterfly wings flew gracefully through the space, moving elegantly among the attendees. Her presence added a touch of magic and theatricality, inviting the audience to immerse themselves further into the world of Madama Butterfly. This character, with her ethereal attire, symbolized the beauty and fragility of the protagonist, creating unique and unforgettable moments for each spectator.

The décor features delicate vinyl butterflies applied to the mirrors, while larger butterflies are suspended from the ceiling and lamps, creating a three-dimensional effect that enhances the dreamlike atmosphere of the room. Some of these butterflies seem to gently perch on the walls and columns, adding a touch of life and movement that draws the audience deeper into this ethereal and one-of-a-kind space.
