Pause, feel, and savor each moment — one step at a time.

Take a step in time.

Inspired by Tobi-Ishi, the stepping stones of a Japanese garden, Grand Seiko’s Autumn 2025 window display reflects the quiet rhythm of a path taken step by step.

Turning leaves, shifting tones, and layered colors are abstracted into subtle fragments of the season. The design captures autumn’s gentle transition, where each step becomes a moment to slow down, pause, and follow the gentle passage of time.

Translated from Japanese, “Tobi-Ishi” (飛石) literally means “flying stones.”

Originating in Japanese gardens during the 16th century, Tobi-Ishi was introduced by tea master Sen no Rikyū (1522–1591).

The stones are irregularly arranged in asymmetry, reflecting the natural flow of landscapes and the changes of seasons.

Walking a Tobi-Ishi path invites one to slow down, step with intention, and leave behind the burdens of everyday life — a meditative preparation before the tea ceremony.

Each stone represents a moment in passage, encouraging awareness of the present.

Much like Grand Seiko’s watchmaking, the Tobi-Ishi path embodies precision, rhythm, and harmony with nature — a journey measured step by step, moment by moment.
